Curriculum Guide

Stella Maris High School has a variety of courses to accommodate the needs of students.  The curriculum follows the New York State Regents requirements with the addition of Honors, Advanced Placement and college credit courses from Adelphi University and St. John's University.  All students will earn a New York State Advanced Regents Diploma or Regents Diploma.

Scheduling for Freshmen is done by the Principal aided by the High School Entrance Examination scores, the Stella Maris Placement test and the student's 6th, 7th and 8th grade marks.  Upperclasswomen have the opportunity along with their guidance counselor and parents to make some choices of elective courses in addition to required courses to bring the sum of units to a minimum of 25. This includes 2 three unit sequences.

At Stella Maris High School all students are encouraged to take the highest level of courses available.  Our main concern is that each and every student be afforded the opportunity to reach her highest level of achievement.  Understanding the different ability levels of students, our curriculum is molded to the needs of each student.

The Medaille Program

The Medaille Program is a comprehensive support program that enables students with documented learning diabilities to succeed in a regular classroom. The goal of the program is for all students to meet the school and state requirements for a high school diploma and go on to a four year college program.

Medaille students are scheduled for resource room every day. There a consultant teacher provides each student with strategies to master curriculum content as well as to acquire and develop skills appropriate for individual strengths and weaknesses. Medaille students are required to attend after school tutoring to facilitate the mastery of course requirements, test preparation and research.
