Junior Year College-Bound Calendar and Checklist:

 

September:

¨      Register to take the PSAT

 

October:

¨      Take the PSAT

¨      Review brochures and catalogs from the colleges that interest you

 

November:

¨      Make a list of 10 to 15 colleges that fit your requirements

¨      PSAT results available

 

December/January:

¨      Register for SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT tests

¨      Make sure you are on track to meet your graduation requirements

¨      Retake Regents exams if necessary- see your guidance counselor

¨      Start to narrow your choice of colleges based on major, location, and size

 

February/March:

¨      Surf the Web for college, career, and scholarship information

¨      Begin visiting colleges you have interest in

¨      Prepare a resume listing activities, volunteer experience, academic achievements, and employment

 

April/May:

¨      Take SAT/ACT exams

¨      Send for college information

¨      Make appointments for tours/and or interviews

¨      Visit colleges

¨      Begin to research scholarships

 

June:

¨      Take SAT/ACT tests

¨      Finalize resume

 

Senior Year College-Bound Calendar and Checklist:

 

September:

¨      Be sure you have all the courses and credits you need for graduation

¨      Register for SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT tests

¨      Ask for letters of recommendations

¨      File NCAA Athletic form if you plan to play college sports

¨      Prepare college applications. If you decide to apply early decision, submit your application to your counselor two weeks before its deadline.

 

October:

¨      Complete college essays

¨      Continue visiting colleges

¨      Register for SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT exams

¨      Continue to work on college applications- Be sure to meet early decision deadlines

¨      Attend college fairs/open houses

¨      Begin to apply for scholarships

 

November:

¨      Finalize college choices

¨      Take SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT exams

¨      Submit college applications

¨      Send SAT I, SAT II, and/or ACT scores directly to colleges

¨      Continue to check for scholarship information

 

 

December/January:

¨      Research financial aid information

¨      Fill out and submit FAFSA form (not before January 1st)

¨      Make sure all necessary applications are submitted

 

February/March:

¨      Any applications still not submitted should be completed as soon as possible if the deadline allows

¨      Notify your counselor of all college acceptances, rejections, and wait-listed status

¨      Continue to check for scholarships

 

April/May:

¨      Make final decisions about college

¨      Report all college decisions to your counselor, along with any scholarship, grants, and awards received

 

June:

¨      Meet all graduation requirements

¨      Meet all college deadlines to ensure your place in the college of your choice
